Universal image restoration (UIR) aims to recover clean images from diverse and unknown degradations using a unified model. Existing UIR methods primarily focus on pixel reconstruction and often lack explicit diagnostic reasoning over degradation composition, severity, and scene semantics prior to restoration. We propose Reason and Restore (R\&R), a novel framework that integrates structured Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning into the image restoration pipeline. R\&R introduces an explicit reasoner, implemented by fine-tuning Qwen3-VL, to diagnose degradation types, quantify degradation severity, infer key degradation-related factors, and describe relevant scene and object semantics. The resulting structured reasoning provides interpretable and fine-grained diagnostic priors for the restorer. To further improve restoration quality, the quantified degradation severity produced by the reasoner is leveraged as reinforcement learning (RL) signals to guide and strengthen the restorer. Unlike existing multimodal LLM-based agentic systems that decouple reasoning from low-level vision tasks, R\&R tightly couples semantic diagnostic reasoning with pixel-level restoration in a unified framework. Extensive experiments across diverse UIR benchmarks demonstrate that R\&R achieves state-of-the-art performance while offering unique interpretability into the restoration process.

Ancient inscriptions, as repositories of cultural memory, have suffered from centuries of environmental and human-induced degradation. Restoring their intertwined visual and textual integrity poses one of the most demanding challenges in digital heritage preservation. However, existing AI-based approaches often rely on rigid pipelines, struggling to generalize across such complex and heterogeneous real-world degradations. Inspired by the skill-coordinated workflow of human epigraphers, we propose EpiAgent, an agent-centric system that formulates inscription restoration as a hierarchical planning problem. Following an Observe-Conceive-Execute-Reevaluate paradigm, an LLM-based central planner orchestrates collaboration among multimodal analysis, historical experience, specialized restoration tools, and iterative self-refinement. This agent-centric coordination enables a flexible and adaptive restoration process beyond conventional single-pass methods. Across real-world degraded inscriptions, EpiAgent achieves superior restoration quality and stronger generalization compared to existing methods. Our work marks an important step toward expert-level agent-driven restoration of cultural heritage. The code is available at this https URL.

Full-duplex dialogue audio, in which each speaker is recorded on a separate track, is an important resource for spoken dialogue research, but is difficult to collect at scale. Most in-the-wild two-speaker dialogue is available only as degraded monaural mixtures, making it unsuitable for systems requiring clean speaker-wise signals. We propose DialogueSidon, a model for joint restoration and separation of degraded monaural two-speaker dialogue audio. DialogueSidon combines a variational autoencoder (VAE) operates on the speech self-supervised learning (SSL) model feature, which compresses SSL model features into a compact latent space, with a diffusion-based latent predictor that recovers speaker-wise latent representations from the degraded mixture. Experiments on English, multilingual, and in-the-wild dialogue datasets show that DialogueSidon substantially improves intelligibility and separation quality over a baseline, while also achieving much faster inference.

Considering efficiency, ultra-high-definition (UHD) low-light image restoration is extremely challenging. Existing methods based on Transformer architectures or high-dimensional complex convolutional neural networks often suffer from the "memory wall" bottleneck, failing to achieve millisecond-level inference on edge devices. To address this issue, we propose a novel real-time UHD low-light enhancement network based on geometric feature fusion using Clifford algebra in 2D Euclidean space. First, we construct a four-layer feature pyramid with gradually increasing resolution, which decomposes input images into low-frequency and high-frequency structural components via a Gaussian blur kernel, and adopts a lightweight U-Net based on depthwise separable convolution for dual-branch feature extraction. Second, to resolve structural information loss and artifacts from traditional high-low frequency feature fusion, we introduce spatially aware Clifford algebra, which maps feature tensors to a multivector space (scalars, vectors, bivectors) and uses Clifford similarity to aggregate features while suppressing noise and preserving textures. In the reconstruction stage, the network outputs adaptive Gamma and Gain maps, which perform physically constrained non-linear brightness adjustment via Retinex theory. Integrated with FP16 mixed-precision computation and dynamic operator fusion, our method achieves millisecond-level inference for 4K/8K images on a single consumer-grade device, while outperforming state-of-the-art (SOTA) models on several restoration metrics.

UAV images are critical for applications such as large-area mapping, infrastructure inspection, and emergency response. However, in real-world flight environments, a single image is often affected by multiple degradation factors, including rain, haze, and noise, undermining downstream task performance. Current unified restoration approaches typically rely on implicit degradation representations that entangle multiple factors into a single condition, causing mutual interference among heterogeneous corrections. To this end, we propose DAME-Net, a Degradation-Aware Mixture-of-Experts Network that decouples explicit degradation perception from degradation-conditioned reconstruction for compositional UAV image restoration. Specifically, we design a Factor-wise Degradation Perception module(FDPM) to provide explicit per-factor degradation cues for the restoration stage through multi-label prediction with label-similarity-guided soft alignment, replacing implicit entangled conditions with interpretable and generalizable degradation descriptions. Moreover, we develop a Conditioned Decoupled MoE module(CDMM) that leverages these cues for stage-wise conditioning, spatial-frequency hybrid processing, and mask-constrained decoupled expert routing, enabling selective factor-specific correction while suppressing irrelevant interference. In addition, we construct the Multi-Degradation UAV Restoration benchmark (MDUR), the first large-scale UAV benchmark for compositional UAV image restoration, with 43 degradation configurations from single degradations to four-factor composites and standardized seen/unseen this http URL experiments on MDUR demonstrate consistent improvements over representative unified restoration methods, with greater gains on unseen and higher-order composite degradations. Downstream experiments further validate benefits for UAV object detection.

Nighttime photography is severely degraded by light pollution induced by pervasive artificial lighting in urban environments. After long-range scattering and spatial diffusion, unwanted artificial light overwhelms natural night luminance, generates skyglow that washes out the view of stars and celestial objects and produces halos and glow artifacts around light sources. Unlike nighttime dehazing, which aims to improve detail legibility through thick air, the objective of light pollution removal is to restore the pristine night appearance by neutralizing the radiative footprint of ground lighting. In this paper we introduce a physically-based degradation model that adds to the previous ones for nighttime dehazing two critical aspects; (i) anisotropic spread of directional light sources, and (ii) skyglow caused by invisible surface lights behind skylines. In addition, we construct a training strategy that leverages large generative model and synthetic-real coupling to compensate for the scarcity of paired real data and enhance generalization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed formulation and learning framework substantially reduce light pollution artifacts and better recover authentic night imagery than prior nighttime restoration methods.

Generative object compositing methods have shown remarkable ability to seamlessly insert objects into scenes. However, when applied to real-world catalog image generation, these methods require tedious manual intervention: users must carefully adjust masks when product dimensions differ, and painstakingly restore occluded elements post-generation. We present CatalogStitch, a set of model-agnostic techniques that automate these corrections, enabling user-friendly content creation. Our dimension-aware mask computation algorithm automatically adapts the target region to accommodate products with different dimensions; users simply provide a product image and background, without manual mask adjustments. Our occlusion-aware hybrid restoration method guarantees pixel-perfect preservation of occluding elements, eliminating post-editing workflows. We additionally introduce CatalogStitch-Eval, a 58-example benchmark covering aspect-ratio mismatch and occlusion-heavy catalog scenarios, together with supplementary PDF and HTML viewers. We evaluate our techniques with three state-of-the-art compositing models (ObjectStitch, OmniPaint, and InsertAnything), demonstrating consistent improvements across diverse catalog scenarios. By reducing manual intervention and automating tedious corrections, our approach transforms generative compositing into a practical, human-friendly tool for production catalog workflows.

Supervised low-level vision models rely on pixel-wise losses against paired references, yet paired training sets exhibit per-pair photometric inconsistency, say, different image pairs demand different global brightness, color, or white-balance mappings. This inconsistency enters through task-intrinsic photometric transfer (e.g., low-light enhancement) or unintended acquisition shifts (e.g., de-raining), and in either case causes an optimization pathology. Standard reconstruction losses allocate disproportionate gradient budget to conflicting per-pair photometric targets, crowding out content restoration. In this paper, we investigate this issue and prove that, under least-squares decomposition, the photometric and structural components of the prediction-target residual are orthogonal, and that the spatially dense photometric component dominates the gradient energy. Motivated by this analysis, we propose Photometric Alignment Loss (PAL). This flexible supervision objective discounts nuisance photometric discrepancy via closed-form affine color alignment while preserving restoration-relevant supervision, requiring only covariance statistics and tiny matrix inversion with negligible overhead. Across 6 tasks, 16 datasets, and 16 architectures, PAL consistently improves metrics and generalization. The implementation is in the appendix.

Monocular Depth Estimation (MDE) is a fundamental computer vision task with important applications in 3D vision. The current mainstream MDE methods employ an encoder-decoder architecture with multi-level/scale feature processing. However, the limitations of the current architecture and the effects of different-level features on the prediction accuracy are not evaluated. In this paper, we first investigate the above problem and show that there is still substantial potential in the current framework if encoder features can be improved. Therefore, we propose to formulate the depth estimation problem from the feature restoration perspective, by treating pretrained encoder features as degraded features of an assumed ground truth feature that yields the ground truth depth map. Then an Invertible Transform-enhanced Indirect Diffusion (InvT-IndDiffusion) module is developed for feature restoration. Due to the absence of direct supervision on feature, only indirect supervision from the final sparse depth map is used. During the iterative procedure of diffusion, this results in feature deviations among steps. The proposed InvT-IndDiffusion solves this problem by using an invertible transform-based decoder under the bi-Lipschitz condition. Finally, a plug-and-play Auxiliary Viewpoint-based Low-level Feature Enhancement module (AV-LFE) is developed to enhance local details with auxiliary viewpoint when available. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performance than the state-of-the-art methods on various datasets. Specifically on the KITTI benchmark, compared with the baseline, the performance is improved by 4.09% and 37.77% under different training settings in terms of RMSE. For applications including facial identification, forensic analysis, photographic improvement, and medical imaging diagnostics, facial image deblurring is an essential chore in computer vision allowing the restoration of high-quality images from blurry inputs. Often based on general picture priors, traditional deblurring techniques find it difficult to capture the particular structural and identity-specific features of human faces. We present SMFD-UNet (Semantic Mask Fusion Deblurring UNet), a new lightweight framework using semantic face masks to drive the deblurring process, therefore removing the need for high-quality reference photos in order to solve these difficulties. First, our dual-step method uses a UNet-based semantic mask generator to directly extract detailed facial component masks (e.g., eyes, nose, mouth) straight from blurry photos. Sharp, high-fidelity facial images are subsequently produced by integrating these masks with the blurry input using a multi-stage feature fusion technique within a computationally efficient UNet framework. We created a randomized blurring pipeline that roughly replicates real-world situations by simulating around 1.74 trillion deterioration scenarios, hence guaranteeing resilience. Examined on the CelebA dataset, SMFD-UNet shows better performance than state-of-the-art models, attaining higher Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) while preserving satisfactory naturalness measures, including NIQE, LPIPS, and FID. Powered by Residual Dense Convolution Blocks (RDC), a multi-stage feature fusion strategy, efficient and effective upsampling techniques, attention techniques like CBAM, post-processing techniques, and the lightweight design guarantees scalability and efficiency, enabling SMFD-UNet to be a flexible solution for developing facial image restoration research and useful applications.

This paper reports on the NTIRE 2026 Challenge on Bitstream-Corrupted Video Restoration (BSCVR). The challenge aims to advance research on recovering visually coherent videos from corrupted bitstreams, whose decoding often produces severe spatial-temporal artifacts and content distortion. Built upon recent progress in bitstream-corrupted video recovery, the challenge provides a common benchmark for evaluating restoration methods under realistic corruption settings. We describe the dataset, evaluation protocol, and participating methods, and summarize the final results and main technical trends. The challenge highlights the difficulty of this emerging task and provides useful insights for future research on robust video restoration under practical bitstream corruption.

Conventional multi-image super-resolution (MISR) methods, such as burst and video SR, rely on sequential frames from a single camera. Consequently, they suffer from complex image degradation and severe occlusion, increasing the difficulty of accurate image restoration. In contrast, multi-aperture camera-array imaging captures spatially distributed views with sampling offsets forming a stable disk-like distribution, which enhances the non-redundancy of observed data. Existing MISR algorithms fail to fully exploit these unique properties. Supervised MISR methods tend to overfit the degradation patterns in training data, and current self-supervised learning (SSL) techniques struggle to recover fine-grained details. To address these issues, this paper thoroughly investigates the strengths, limitations and applicability boundaries of multi-image-to-single-image (Multi-to-Single) and multi-image-to-multi-image (Multi-to-Multi) SSL methods. We propose the Multi-to-Single-Guided Multi-to-Multi SSL framework that combines the advantages of Multi-to-Single and Multi-to-Multi to generate visually appealing and high-fidelity images rich in texture details. The Multi-to-Single-Guided Multi-to-Multi SSL framework provides a new paradigm for integrating deep neural network with classical physics-based variational methods. To enhance the ability of MISR network to recover high-frequency details from aliased artifacts, this paper proposes a novel camera-array SR network called dual Transformer suitable for SSL. Experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.

Photographs taken in adverse weather conditions often suffer from blurriness, occlusion, and low brightness due to interference from rain, snow, and fog. These issues can significantly hinder the performance of subsequent computer vision tasks, making the removal of weather effects a crucial step in image enhancement. Existing methods primarily target specific weather conditions, with only a few capable of handling multiple weather scenarios. However, mainstream approaches often overlook performance considerations, resulting in large parameter sizes, long inference times, and high memory costs. In this study, we introduce the WeatherRemover model, designed to enhance the restoration of images affected by various weather conditions while balancing performance. Our model adopts a UNet-like structure with a gating mechanism and a multi-scale pyramid vision Transformer. It employs channel-wise attention derived from convolutional neural networks to optimize feature extraction, while linear spatial reduction helps curtail the computational demands of attention. The gating mechanisms, strategically placed within the feed-forward and downsampling phases, refine the processing of information by selectively addressing redundancy and mitigating its influence on learning. This approach facilitates the adaptive selection of essential data, ensuring superior restoration and maximizing efficiency. Additionally, our lightweight model achieves an optimal balance between restoration quality, parameter efficiency, computational overhead, and memory usage, distinguishing it from other multi-weather models, thereby meeting practical application demands effectively. In computed tomography imaging, metal implants frequently generate severe artifacts that compromise image quality and hinder diagnostic accuracy. There are three main challenges in the existing methods: the deterioration of organ and tissue structures, dependence on sinogram data, and an imbalance between resource use and restoration efficiency. Addressing these issues, we introduce MARMamba, which effectively eliminates artifacts caused by metals of different sizes while maintaining the integrity of the original anatomical structures of the image. Furthermore, this model only focuses on CT images affected by metal artifacts, thus negating the requirement for additional input data. The model is a streamlined UNet architecture, which incorporates multi-scale Mamba (MS-Mamba) as its core module. Within MS-Mamba, a flip mamba block captures comprehensive contextual information by analyzing images from multiple orientations. Subsequently, the average maximum feed-forward network integrates critical features with average features to suppress the artifacts. This combination allows MARMamba to reduce artifacts efficiently. The experimental results demonstrate that our model excels in reducing metal artifacts, offering distinct advantages over other models. It also strikes an optimal balance between computational demands, memory usage, and the number of parameters, highlighting its practical utility in the real world. The code of the presented model is available at: this https URL.

Metal artifacts from high-attenuation implants severely degrade CT image quality, obscuring critical anatomical structures and posing a challenge for standard deep learning methods that require extensive paired training data. We propose a paradigm shift: reframing artifact reduction as an in-context reasoning task by adapting a general-purpose vision-language diffusion foundation model via parameter-efficient Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA). By leveraging rich visual priors, our approach achieves effective artifact suppression with only 16 to 128 paired training examples reducing data requirements by two orders of magnitude. Crucially, we demonstrate that domain adaptation is essential for hallucination mitigation; without it, foundation models interpret streak artifacts as erroneous natural objects (e.g., waffles or petri dishes). To ground the restoration, we propose a multi-reference conditioning strategy where clean anatomical exemplars from unrelated subjects are provided alongside the corrupted input, enabling the model to exploit category-specific context to infer uncorrupted anatomy. Extensive evaluation on the AAPM CT-MAR benchmark demonstrates that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on perceptual and radiological-feature metrics . This work establishes that foundation models, when appropriately adapted, offer a scalable alternative for interpretable, data-efficient medical image reconstruction. In LLM/VLM agents, prompt privacy risk propagates beyond a single model call because raw user content can flow into retrieval queries, memory writes, tool calls, and logs. Existing de-identification pipelines address document boundaries but not this cross-stage propagation. We propose BodhiPromptShield, a policy-aware framework that detects sensitive spans, routes them via typed placeholders, semantic abstraction, or secure symbolic mapping, and delays restoration to authorized boundaries. Relative to enterprise redaction, this adds explicit propagation-aware mediation and restoration timing as a security variable. Under controlled evaluation on the Controlled Prompt-Privacy Benchmark (CPPB), stage-wise propagation suppresses from 10.7\% to 7.1\% across retrieval, memory, and tool stages; PER reaches 9.3\% with 0.94 AC and 0.92 TSR, outperforming generic de-identification. These are controlled systems results on CPPB rather than formal privacy guarantees or public-benchmark transfer claims. The project repository is available at this https URL.

Diffusion models excel at image restoration via probabilistic modeling of forward noise addition and reverse denoising, and their ability to handle complex noise while preserving fine details makes them well-suited for Low-Light Image Enhancement (LLIE). Mainstream diffusion based LLIE methods either adopt a two-stage pipeline or an auxiliary correction network to refine U-Net outputs, which severs the intrinsic link between enhancement and denoising and leads to suboptimal performance owing to inconsistent optimization objectives. To address these issues, we propose the Signal Attenuation Diffusion Model (SADM), a novel diffusion process that integrates the signal attenuation mechanism into the diffusion pipeline, enabling simultaneous brightness adjustment and noise suppression in a single stage. Specifically, the signal attenuation coefficient simulates the inherent signal attenuation of low-light degradation in the forward noise addition process, encoding the physical priors of low-light degradation to explicitly guide reverse denoising toward the concurrent optimization of brightness recovery and noise suppression, thereby eliminating the need for extra correction modules or staged training relied on by existing methods. We validate that our design maintains consistency with Denoising Diffusion Implicit Models(DDIM) via multi-scale pyramid sampling, balancing interpretability, restoration quality, and computational efficiency.

Reconstructing 3D scenes from smoke-degraded multi-view images is particularly difficult because smoke introduces strong scattering effects, view-dependent appearance changes, and severe degradation of cross-view consistency. To address these issues, we propose a framework that integrates visual priors with efficient 3D scene modeling. We employ Nano-Banana-Pro to enhance smoke-degraded images and provide clearer visual observations for reconstruction and develop Smoke-GS, a medium-aware 3D Gaussian Splatting framework for smoke scene reconstruction and restoration-oriented novel view synthesis. Smoke-GS models the scene using explicit 3D Gaussians and introduces a lightweight view-dependent medium branch to capture direction-dependent appearance variations caused by smoke. Our method preserves the rendering efficiency of 3D Gaussian Splatting while improving robustness to smoke-induced degradation. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method for generating consistent and visually clear novel views in challenging smoke environments.

Remote sensing imagery suffers from clouds, haze, noise, resolution limits, and sensor heterogeneity. Existing restoration and fusion approaches train separate models per degradation type. In this work, we present Language-conditioned Large-scale Remote Sensing restoration model (LLaRS), the first unified foundation model for multi-modal and multi-task remote sensing low-level vision. LLaRS employs Sinkhorn-Knopp optimal transport to align heterogeneous bands into semantically matched slots, routes features through three complementary mixture-of-experts layers (convolutional experts for spatial patterns, channel-mixing experts for spectral fidelity, and attention experts with low-rank adapters for global context), and stabilizes joint training via step-level dynamic weight adjustment. To train LLaRS, we construct LLaRS1M, a million-scale multi-task dataset spanning eleven restoration and enhancement tasks, integrating real paired observations and controlled synthetic degradations with diverse natural language prompts. Experiments show LLaRS consistently outperforms seven competitive models, and parameter-efficient finetuning experiments demonstrate strong transfer capability and adaptation efficiency on unseen data. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) for speech restoration hold transformative potential for the approximately 173,000--232,500 individuals worldwide with ALS-related dysarthria. Despite recent progress, high-performance speech BCIs have been demonstrated in only 22--31 patients globally, largely due to limitations in neural decoding accuracy and practical input interfaces. We present iPhoneme, a brain-to-text communication system that jointly addresses these challenges through integrated modeling and interaction design. The system combines a deep learning phoneme decoder based on a modified Conformer architecture (ConformerXL, 192.9M parameters) with a gaze-assisted phoneme input interface that mitigates the Midas touch problem in eye-tracking systems. The acoustic model incorporates a temporal prenet with multi-scale dilated convolutions and bidirectional GRU for neural jitter correction, temporal subsampling for CTC stability, and Pre-RMSNorm stabilization across 12 encoder blocks, trained with AdamW and cosine scheduling. On the interaction side, iPhoneme introduces a chorded gaze-plus-silent-speech paradigm that replaces dwell-time selection, enabling more efficient input. We evaluate the system on the T15 dataset (45 sessions, 8,071 trials) of 256-channel intracranial EEG from speech motor cortex regions. A 6-gram phoneme language model trained on 3.1M sequences, combined with WFST beam search (beam=128), achieves 92.14% phoneme accuracy (7.86% PER) and 73.39% word accuracy (26.61% WER), approximately 3% above prior state-of-the-art. The system operates on CPU with 180 ms latency, demonstrating real-time, high-accuracy brain-to-text communication for ALS.
